I painted this African Spurred Land Tortoise named Tippy that my young son met at Mixon Farms in Sarasota, Florida in 2018. It turned out to be a very influential moment in his life as it made him fall in love with turtles of all kinds. So I decided to paint him. And I have to say that I loved painting this one. I fell in love with all of the beautiful patterns on the shell and also on the wood fence. And I used a lot of complementary colors next to each other (both yellows and purples/ reds and greens) which is exciting to look at. My son told me that his room is going to be quite noisy now, because all of his other turtles will think this guy (in the painting) is real. So I guess you could say that this painting is about love in lots of ways.

"A  painting lives by companionship, expanding and quickening in the eyes
of the sensitive observer.  It dies by the same token.  It is therefore a
risky & unfeeling act to send it out into the world."
