My newest comissioned painting is of a Florida pier that is on a beautiful island in the Gulf of Mexico. In the summer, you often see beautiful clouds floating by filled with rain showers that show up in the afternoon. I really liked working on all of the colors in the clouds and water in this painting. It actually felt more like making an abstract painting as I thought a lot about how the colors near each other were interacting with each other and also about how the shapes of the clouds and the lines in the water were effecting how your eyes move throughout the piece. There were a lot of complimentary colors interacting as well, especially yellows and purples. And it took a lot of thinking about how fuzzy or sharp edges needed to be to show the depth. In the end, I think it really does capture the colors that you see relaxing on the Florida Gulf Coast.

"A  painting lives by companionship, expanding and quickening in the eyes
of the sensitive observer.  It dies by the same token.  It is therefore a
risky & unfeeling act to send it out into the world."
