Next I am painting the Haleakala Volcano crater in Maui. It is going to be a 6 feet long painting so it may take a while. :)

I started painting today! I roughly outlined the rocks in the foreground and I started filling in some colors down in the crater.

I started painting the darker part on the left today! This painting is so big it takes a while to get going.

I added more to the left side slope today.

More work on the background. I also started on the rocks in the foreground on the left side.

I worked on the rocks in the foreground more today.

I added more dark black to the far left side- increasing its contrast with the rocks in the foreground.

I added blue to the sky today and started a few clouds as well.

I worked on the mountains in the upper right side today and also on the land in the middle background.

More work on the green hills and also on the middle background. There are lots of different shapes and colors in there!

More work on the green mountains in the background. I also added a dark blue/green color in the middle area of the background. (I finally at least have paint on the entire canvas...except for some of the sides!)

More work on the green mountains in the back and on the middle background area. There is a lot going on in the middle... lots of different colors and shapes.

Today I worked on the lighter area in the middle. I am trying to tie it in with the foreground and keep the illusion of distance. I want it all to make sense together...

Today I started working on the brown slope on the middle right. I added more details and more contrast.

I added more details to the brown slope today as well. I mainly worked on the right side.

I worked on the top right side of the right slope- adding more details to the dark ashy area.
