(Happy 93rd birthday to my g.ma, Dorothy Martyn!)

My next painting is also going to be a circle but this time the subject is based on a park at night.  Good stuff. Stay tuned.

This scene reminds me of a Japanese print. (minus the high rise of course.)

I started this painting yesterday but all I did was paint the canvas a green blue color so I figured that you didn't want to see that. Today I made some progress.  I am enjoying trying to capture night colors, though I am not sure if this orangey brown sky will stay.  But the sky in Houston really does look orangey at night.  Something to do with the city lights bouncing off all the rain clouds I suppose.  (If anyone really knows why the night sky looks orange here please email me.)

Musical Inspiration: None today.  I need some new tunes I think...

6.26.2007

I changed the background color to more of a green and added reddish shrubbery and leaves. And also I started to add the building.  Not sure about the colors yet...

I changed the sky color again. I am starting to like it more now.  I am going to try to finish this one in the next week.  Finger's crossed!

This painting keeps reminding me of the Canadian artist Tom Thomson's paintings.

6.29.2007

I got pretty far today!  I added contrast and windows to the buildings.  I also made the tree bark darker and added blue to the leaves.  The last thing that I did was glaze the sky with an orangey brown color to make the orange pop a little more.

7.03.2007

I added more red and brown to the sky to make it look darker. Hmmm...

7.04.2007

I added purple to the sky and some colors to the leaves.  I'm sort of annoyed with it at this point. I will finish it next week!

7.09.2007

I changed the sky back to orange and made the tree and shrubs much darker.  I think it is starting to come together.
