This is a quick sketch of my next painting. It will be a Montezuma Quail that I saw this summer in West Texas.

I started painting my quail today. First I sketched out the quail and then I started adding in some rough rock shapes.

I worked on the feathers more today and I also started adding to the rocks in the background.

More rocks on top and more work on the white polka-dotted feathers.

I started adding some grass and some green lichens on the rock in the middle. I also added some details to the quail's head and top back feathers.
