My next painting is an
experiment. The idea is to create a painting that reacts to
another artist, Matt Geirhart's ideas that he shared with me through his writing/ choice
of music. The following is my reaction in paint. My friend, Matt Geirhart wrote the following and asked me to respond in paint: In looking at most of your paintings, mostly there is distance. Your last painting of Austin seemed to be a painting of distance. Almost like you were looking for the end of Austin. Now I suppose you are looking for the beginning of Houston. I think I feel of have felt the same with my relationship with God from time to time. Almost, like I wanted to find God again- for the first time. Let my ideas and understanding be as simple as can be, but also as malleable as a new friend. This is why, just to begin, I want you to find something small. Something you can later crush. He also included this visual and a mix CD:

I finally had time to get started. I thought about what a visual representation of "something small that you could later crush" and I thought of a sandcastle. This sandcastle will use part of the Houston skyline though. (The building that I chose from the skyline is the one I use to figure out where I am. I guess you could say it is my visual compass.) I worked on the sand castle mostly today but also added some yellow to the beach. Musical Inspiration of the Day:

9.04.2006 Praise God for vacation days! I like one of the songs that Matt gave me that says "You will never be all by yourself, but you will never be the same..." Musical Inspiration of the Day:

9.07.2006 The colors got a little wild today and the sand tower got shorter. I like it... we'll see what happens. Musical Inspiration of the Day:

9.09.2006 I'm having a hard time figuring out what color to make the sand. I'm a little frustrated. Pressing on though. Musical Inspiration of the Day:

9.11.2006 I'd just like to say that I will never forget Sept. 11th 5 years ago today. I was in my painting class at UT when I heard the news. I still cannot look at the images of that day without feeling emotional. I pray that God comforts the families that lost loved ones and for our leaders and armed forces as God uses them to bravely serve us and protect us. I pray that we never forget. I am starting to like my painting more. I am still trying to figure out the colors. Fear not, I will endure until the end. Musical Inspiration of the Day:

Some good color decisions were made today I think in my brief interlude with my painting today. Musical Inspiration of the Day: |

9.17.2006 More orangey-ness. I like it better already. Musical Inspiration of the Day:

9.24.2006 More grey on the blue on the shore and more colors on the mountains in the background. I am not sure that the mountains are going to stay green though. I'm thinking blueish grey might work better. Musical Inspiration of the Day:
