1.31.2011 >>> I'm painting a silversword plant from my Maui trip next. Stay tuned!

2.1.2011

I made a quick sketch of my painting.  It is of a Silversword plant in Haleakala National Park in Maui.

2.5.2011

I have been painting the background today.  It is looking into the Haleakala volcano crater!

2.6.2011 ~Superbowl Sunday

I added some lighter grey greens to the background and some more purples to the middle ground.

2.12.2011

I started painting the silversword today!

2.13.2011

I started adding some of the shadows around the silversword.

2.15.2011

I started working on the flower part. I added a bunch of yellows and greens and white.

2.16.2011

I added a bunch of white highlights to the silversword.  It makes some of the leaves come forward!

2.18.2011

I added some color to the sky and I adjusted some of the cones and lava flow in the background.  I also started defining the rocks in the foreground.

2.19.2011

I forgot to take a photo.  I only had time to add the lightly colored trail to the left of the silversword.

2.20.2011

I started adding some of the green colors to the silversword.  This on is pretty complicated. It reminds me of painting my peacock painting.

2.23.2011

I started adding the flowers today!

2.27.2011

I worked more on the contrast in the leaves today.  As I painted I thought about the Van Gogh painting that I copied in college for a project.  It was called "Wheat Field with Poppies".  The overlapping layers of green leaves feel very similar to me.

2.28.2011

I worked on the flowers more today.

3.2.2011

I worked on the rocks and shadows more today.  I think I am finished... hmm...
