3.1.2007

Change of plans. God has really been teaching me about the idea of peace and reconciliation lately.  It's the idea of two becoming one.  So my goal is to make a painting about this idea and the best way I could think of to describe this visually was through the image of two trees growing together.  This is going to be a very tall painting of a window with crepe myrtle trees outside it. Yay!  I am excited.

***This is my 50th original painting!***

3.2.2007

I taped off the area that is going to be the wooden frame of the window and painted it brown.  I also began working with the composition of the areas that are around and behind the tree.  The colors will need to be tweaked but so far I like all the triangular shapes.

3.4.2007

I started painting the trees.  Yay for Sunday painting!

3.5.2007

I worked on the trees some more and I also changed the color of the ground and the road. Lots more to work to come...

Side note: There is a mayfly that keeps visiting me while I paint. I tried throwing him outside a few times, but he keeps coming back. So  I named him Herman today.  I hope that he doesn't get stuck to my painting.  That would be a strange and painful death. I'll take a photo if he does...

3.8.2007

I worked on the trees again and added a building in the background.  This one has been a lot of fun so far.  And yes folks, that's right, I broke another palette knife.  Something is clearly wrong with the palette knife manufacturing. I am starting a pile.

Side note: Hermon brought friends tonight.

3.12.2007

I worked on the trees again and added some orangey highlights.  I also changed the color of the building in the background and added rain gutters to it.  I am really excited about this one!

3.25.2007

I worked on the ground and background today.  I am trying to figure which colors to use.  I am having trouble figuring out the color of the building in the back but I will conquer it, don't you worry.

3.26.2007

I worked on the tree again today.  I added some main branches and more orange.  I also changed the back building color again.  I still haven't figured it out yet. (Hermon was back!)

3.27.2007

Today I went to see the French painter exhibit at the MFAH for my third time.  Let's just say that me and Van Gogh's Cypress Trees spent a long time talking and they told me to paint the back building light blue and the street darker blue.  From there the pink sky was born but it may turn purple soon.  I am SOOOO excited about this one.  The kind of excited that A- makes me a nerd and B- makes me so happy that God has given me a passion to pursue.

Musical Inspiration of the Day: none, just beautiful silence.

3.30.2007/3.31.2007

I changed the sky and the building again.  I painted the sky purple and dark blue then decided to go back to light blue.  And then I changed the building to pink.  I also added a hint of pink to the tree to make it pop out more.  Lots more work to go, but I am happy about it.  It's 1 am... good night.

4.2.2007

Today I added light blue to the sky.

4.3.2007

I added light green to the sky and more contrast & red to the dirt in the foreground.

Musical Inspiration of the Day: my new itunes... still happy.

4.5.2007

I added red lines by the tree and started adding more bright orange to the branches as well.

Musical Inspiration of the Day: The Fray.

4.08.2007 Happy Easter!  He is RISEN!!!

I worked on the color of the ground today.

PS- It is really cold today and it is Easter.  What in the world?  I guess Al Gore doesn't know what he is talking about after all. :)

Musical Inspiration of the Day: The Fray.

4.09.2007

I glazed the side to look like wood and it is still wet and it is difficult to photograph so it looks better than this in real life, promise.  I changed the ground color dramatically and also added the line for the inside of the window.  More work to come but I think I am getting close to finishing!

Musical Inspiration of the Day: Switchfoot, Dare You to Move CD.

4.12.2007

I made the inner line on the window thicker today.  The "wooden" frame area is still really wet so it was quite a task to not touch it.  It'll probably take another week for it to dry.  SO the end of this one may be slow.

Musical Inspiration of the Day: none.
