Introducing my newest painting:
Luke 7:36-50: The sinful woman anoints Jesus' feet

When I was trying to figure out my next painting in my current series, I read Luke's account of the sinful woman's interaction with Jesus and it really affected me.  Sometimes when I have a bad day, all I can see are the mistakes I've made and the things I've done wrong.  But when I read this account I see that Jesus didn't shame the sinful woman because of her mistakes.  Instead he cherished her and loved her and allowed her to love him.  He didn't say that her mistakes were ok, but he loved her despite her failures.  The woman understood her desperate need for God to forgive her and she realized that Jesus was God and recognized that he had the power to give her the forgiveness and peace that she sought.  And most of all she genuinely loved Jesus and showed this through her actions. This is a picture of true humility.  And I hope that I can love God in my everyday life in such a humble and beautiful way.  Hopefully when you see this painting you will feel the same way.  (Also check out John 13 .)

I chose to use the French painter Vulliard as my artistic inspiration for this piece because he so often painted scenes about people's interpersonal relationships.  Check out my artistic heroes page for more info.

Then Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." Luke 7:48

Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace." Luke 7:50
