During certain times of the year the light pours into this Houston church's Sanctuary at just the right angle. The effect is that all of the columns look like they have been covered in a wonderful abstract watercolor painting. It really is a beautiful site. Thankfully I was finally able to take some photos of this marvel during the Spring of 2016. And that is where the inspiration for this painting was born.

The more I painted this beautiful light the more I thought about how Jesus tells us that he is the light of the world. Not only does that symbolize that he is the only way to be saved from darkness and evil, but it also points to his supreme beauty that we as humans are naturally drawn to. As the saying says- like a moth to a flame.

This place in particular has special meaning to me as I was married here. So I titled this piece "Where It All Began" not only because my marriage and family began here but also many people's transition from darkness into light also started here as they met the one true God in this place. Hopefully this painting shows a fraction of the beauty that the real site was to behold.

"A  painting lives by companionship, expanding and quickening in the eyes
of the sensitive observer.  It dies by the same token.  It is therefore a
risky & unfeeling act to send it out into the world."
